Phoenix Contact Trip Power 600 VDC power line buffer

Thursday, 16 February, 2012 | Supplied by: Phoenix Contact Pty Ltd

The Trio Power power supply for 600 VDC links from Phoenix Contact is designed to offer a cost-effective power buffering unit in a compact 115 x 130 x 152.5 mm housing. When the power fails, loads are reliably supplied by the drive kinetic energy. The three-phase motor, driven from a frequency converter or servo controller, then acts like a generator.

The power supply, fed by the generator voltage extending from 450 to 900 VDC, generates an adjustable, regulated output voltage of 22.5 up to 29.5 VDC at a rated current of 20 A. The 24 VDC supply is then buffered long enough in order to be able to execute control tasks of limited time duration.

One application example is for a machine tool which, as a result of an emergency stop procedure, is brought into a safe state in a resource-saving way. Axis and spindle motions are actively stopped, and when required, tools retracted. As a consequence, the work piece and tool remain intact. The machine tool restarts without any problem when the power supply voltage returns.
