Walkinshaw Group opens new manufacturing facility and headquarters

Automotive engineering and remanufacturing company Walkinshaw Group has announced the opening of its new $114 million facility in the Nexus Dandenong South precinct, in partnership with leading privately-owned property group Salta.

Originally announced in July 2024, the company says the 100,000 m2 site, located at 820 Taylors Road, Dandenong South, underpins its commitment to Australian manufacturing and engineering.

It will house a workforce of over 800 people daily across two shifts, and it includes four manufacturing lines for some of the largest automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) in the world, all in separate, secure areas, which will produce in excess of 10,000 units per year.

It also includes Walkinshaw’s engineering centre, which provides engineering and design services to a broad range of industries, as well as warehousing, office space, hardstand, 700-staff car parking and in excess of 500 storage spots for remanufactured vehicles.

The planned move of Walkinshaw Andretti United, the Supercars Championship team, will also take place in Q2 of 2026.

“Today is an incredibly proud day for the entire Walkinshaw Group,” said Ryan Walkinshaw, Group Director & CEO. “It marks a new era in our history: one that will drive us forward as we officially move into our new state-of-the-art facility — the new home of the Walkinshaw Group here at Nexus Dandenong South.

“Since 2018, our business has seen remarkable growth and our capabilities have expanded significantly. It left us needing a bigger footprint, one that not only fit our unique requirements, but would continue our expansion into the future. We are extremely grateful to Salta for joining us on this journey and bringing this to life.

“We truly believe in the strength of Australian manufacturing and engineering, and this should show everyone how committed we are for the long term.”

“We are extremely proud to deliver such a highly technical, bespoke facility of this scale for a generational business like Walkinshaw,” said Sam Tarascio, Salta Properties Managing Director. “The complexity of the project showcases Salta’s end-to-end capability across development, project, asset and facilities management — from detailed tenant engagement and design through to on-time delivery and post-completion operations.

“Our in-house approach allowed us to create a solution tailored specifically to Walkinshaw’s needs, rather than asking them to fit into a standard warehouse, and that attention to detail delivered the best possible outcome.”
