US invests in a smart manufacturing future

Monday, 27 June, 2016

The US has launched a Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute in partnership with the Department of Energy. Led by the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition (SMLC), the institute will bring together a consortium of organisations from industry, academia, government and non-profit trade groups to drive advances in smart manufacturing technology and digital process controls to improve the efficiency of advanced manufacturing.

The Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute will focus on innovations that can dramatically reduce energy expenses in advanced manufacturing, strengthening the manufacturing sector and help to sustain the current resurgence of US manufacturing. The SMLC will launch the institute with a focus on accelerating the development and adoption of advanced sensors, data analytics and controls in manufacturing, and using smart manufacturing software to reach new levels of efficiency and optimisation of operations.

SMLC member Savigent Software will provide its event-driven smart manufacturing software as part of the coalition’s core technology offering.
