Macrosensors GHS series LVDT-based gauging probes
Using electronic gauging probes for dimensional gauging of manufactured parts is a well-established quality assurance technique. Typical gauging probes are cylinders with diameters of about 9 mm and lengths ranging from 65 to 100 mm. They incorporate a non-contact inductive position sensor, either LVDT or half-bridge, which uses a spring-loaded movable armature coupled to a shaft that is supported in a high-precision linear bearing. They generally have a maximum gauging range of 0.25 to 2.5 mm, with resolutions of fractions of a micron.

Air gap sensor

ASM has introduced the POSIROT PRAS3, a magnetic angular position sensor in a compact 36 mm diameter housing. The active sensor element uses an internal, contact-free permanent magnet to determine the angular position. The measurement ranges are available in 15° increments: 0-15, 0-30, 0-45 up to 0-360°. The servo flange mounting ensures quick and easy installation for the PRAS3 series.

Inclinometers
Inclinometers are a valuable device for measuring the angle of equipment without any moving parts; the solid-state system is housed in a rugged metal case for mounting directly onto machinery. Position sensors
Cylinder sensors are used to detect the position on pneumatic C slot cylinders. The advantage is that the non-contact sensors virtually work without wear and often achieve a longer life than reed switches, saving on repair costs and down times.

The WLL190T-2 fibre-optic photoelectric switch from Sick has two programmable switching thresholds per device, an additional analog output and a response time of 60 µs. Together with over 80 different fibre-optic cables in the Sick LL3 series, it is suitable for those tasks where little mounting space is available, the sensor head (ie, the fibre-optic cable) must be adapted to meet the needs of the application, or the sensor (as an evaluation unit) must be installed at a distance to the objects to be detected - due to EMC, high temperatures or chemical effects.
