'Game-changing' offshore oil find to feature at industry event

Carnarvon Petroleum will provide an inside look at the biggest Australian oil discovery for more than 20 years at a special luncheon to be held during the 2015 Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference (AOG) in Perth in March.

Adrian Cook, managing director of Carnarvon Petroleum - one of the key joint venture companies involved in the Phoenix South-1 oil find - will discuss the implications of the discovery for the Australian oil and gas sector.

“We are very pleased to have secured Carnarvon Petroleum to provide first-hand knowledge on what industry insiders are describing as a game-changing oil find,” Bill Hare, AOG event director said.

“This first discovery in the highly underexplored offshore Canning Basin, Phoenix South may have found a new oil province off the Western Australian coast, making it the most significant new oil play found on the North West Shelf since the Enfield discovery opened up the Exmouth Basin almost 20 years ago.

“Many analysts are now suggesting that this discovery may lead to a rejuvenation in offshore exploration activity in Australia, which is great news for this country,” Hare said.

The industry luncheon, titled ‘Carnarvon Petroleum, opening up a new oil province on the North West Shelf’, will be held on Day 1 of AOG 2015, which is being staged at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 11-13 March 2015.
