In its constant search to improve production facilities - economically and environmentally - Lockwood Security Products accepted the proposal of Honeywell Pacific, to undertake a Facility Optimisation Program, or audit of its Oakleigh facility.
The aim was to identify opportunities to improve environmental sustainability, reduce energy and operational costs and increase the performance of plant and equipment.
Recognising the sustainable benefits to the environment, significant potential for export of Victorian technology, and economic advantage, the Victorian Government awarded a $10,000 grant to assist the process.
One important goal of the proposed $1.5 million program, was to deliver an environmental solution for the wastewater treatment at Lockwood's Oakleigh plant. The success to date has resulted in ASSA ABLOY, parent company of Lockwood Security Products, considering this Victorian technology for its 100 international companies.
"Environmentally friendly initiatives are a major priority of the ASSA ABLOY Group worldwide" said Mr Geoff Norcott, ASSA ABLOY Group Vice President, UK & Australia / N.Z, who was in Australia for the launch. "The cornerstones of our business are vision, ethics, realism and courage. This project illustrates all of these attributions and hence projects our corporate image and the social responsibility represented by our local brands. As a group, ASSA ABLOY is very interested in the potential of this new technology commissioned by local Australian manufacturer, Lockwood Security Products".
Honeywell's initial comprehensive strategic research study investigated performance and environmental initiatives with recommendations encompassing re-engineering of Compressed Air Systems, Lighting and Power Control and the viability of the Ion Exchange Technology in the treatment and recycling of electroplating metals from waste streams. The resulting proposal, fully backed by Honeywell Pacific, was based on the project being both environmentally viable and of sound business nature. It included time lines for the purchasing, installation and commissioning of all equipment and initiatives.
