HIMA showcasing smart safety solutions at OGA 2017

HIMA is showcasing its most technologically advanced safety systems and a range of services for the oil and gas industry at OGA 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

One of the solutions HIMA is highlighting during OGA 2017 is the FlexSILon TMC (turbomachinery control) system. Around the world, the functional safety of turbines and compressors is becoming a focal point, as even a small malfunction can have lethal impact on human lives and incur high financial cost. FlexSILon TMC helps to monitor, regulate and control turbomachinery centrally. This eliminates the need for numerous single-purpose solutions from different vendors. FlexSILon TMC combines two HIMA products: the flexible HIMax platform ensures uninterrupted operation of plants and SILworX enables operators to configure and program turbines and compressors as well as diagnose problems.

With FlexSILon TMC, companies are said to reduce their overall operating expenses as compared to using individual systems. The savings can be more than US$500,000 per year, coming from reduced failure rate and higher productivity. On top of that, this solution is also claimed to offers lower total cost of ownership as fewer sensors and logic solver packages are required.

Besides safety system technology, HIMA is also showcasing its full range of services for the entire safety life cycle. HIMA is a solution provider to the oil and gas sector with the capability to design, install, test and maintain the functional safety system, be that upstream, midstream or downstream. HIMA offers consultancy as well as providing TÜV-accredited training covering all aspects of functional safety and cybersecurity.

In Malaysia, HIMA Asia Pacific has been involved in providing smart safety solutions including functional safety for emergency shutdowns and fire and gas systems for conglomerates like Malaysia LNG and BASF-Petronas Chemical, where HIMA’s safety solutions fulfilled all requirements for SIL 3 and SIL 4.

According to Friedhelm Best, vice-president, HIMA Asia Pacific: “For more than 45 years, we have been focusing solely on safety solutions, and the oil and gas industry is a major sector for us. Thus we understand deeply its needs and operating conditions, and this understanding enables us to offer the most efficient safety solutions and services.

“With HIMA’s FlexSILon turbomachinery control, operators can reduce annual energy costs by up to six figures and at the same time ensure maximum reliability. We also offer specialised consulting and training services for all phases of the safety life cycle.”
