Schneider Electric has released the Modicon M340 programmable automation controller that is suitable for mining environments. It uses the Unity Pro configuration software, the single software package for all Modicon controllers. This allows for the full development of the Modicon M340 applications including online updates and simulation with comprehensive debug functions.
The Modicon M340 includes 4 Mb internal RAM, with up to 128 MB additional memory with FTP access, and application backup in a supplied SD memory card, with no battery required.
High-density 64 point I/O cards are only 1.25” wide, and rack expansion capability is up to four 12-slot racks. An integrated USB port and a choice of communication ports (ethernet, CANopen and Modbus) are also available.
Choice of power supply includes 24-48 VDC, 100-150 VDC, and 100-240 VAC. The unit supports an extended operating temperature range of -25 to +70°C, and has a conformal coating to withstand harsh environments. An RTU model is also available supporting DNP 3.0 and IEC60870-5 serial or Modbus TCP/IP connections.
The Modicon M340 now complies with the IEC IECEx certification scheme for explosive atmospheres. The certification means an expanded range of protection provided including: EX ia, when no external power present, in compliance with the IEC 60079-0:2004 Edition 4.0 and IEC 60079-11:2006 Edition 5.
