Compressor technology provides environmental gains

Friday, 29 August, 2008

The Quantima has been developed by compressed air and gas system manufacturer CompAir. The oil-free technology and greater efficiency cuts energy costs by up to 25% and greenhouse emissions by 35%.

A number of businesses have already installed the technology and it will be introduced more widely to industry through an Australasian roadshow later this year and early in 2009.

CompAir’s managing director Gary Woodhead said with Australia’s carbon emissions trading scheme commencing in 2010, every tonne of carbon saved would be money in the bank.

“So as well as the energy and maintenance savings, industry will earn carbon credits and, importantly, compress their carbon footprint,” Woodhead said.

“This is the future and the technology benefits all compressed air users, large and small. For example, a 300 kW Quantima could cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 2000 tonnes over 10 years.”

The compression assembly has only one moving part spinning in a magnetic field, providing reduced energy consumption and improved environmental performance. It is more compact and quieter than comparable compressors, and provides variable speed operations without a gearbox or oil.

The technology will be outlined at the CompAir business breakfasts in Melbourne, Sydney and Launceston in November, in Brisbane in February 2009, Adelaide in March, and Perth and Auckland, New Zealand in May.

On registration, manufacturers are asked to provide some details of their current compressed air usage. The company will then do an assessment on the energy, greenhouse and cost savings that the Quantima can deliver and provide these at the breakfast presentation.

Registration for the presentations is open.
