NIR transmission sensors

NDC's NW710 near infrared sensor is designed to provide basis weight and moisture measurement of Spunbond fabrics in a single, non-nuclear sensor.

The sensor's optics have been optimised to maximise sensitivity and signal-to-noise when measuring these Spunbond and combination Spunbond/Melt Blown products.

Proprietary sensor design and ambient environment management combine to ensure rock-solid measurement without drift. Unlike beta and X-ray gauges, the sensor's infrared energy source is only absorbed by the product, making the online measurement immune to ambient air temperature effects.

The result is a sensor that provides good basis weight and/or moisture measurement, without the need for special licensing or safety handling. Although the sensor is designed for long life without drift or need for recalibration, if a problem ever develops with the gauge, repairs can usually be performed by the user without the need for a specialised technician to visit the site.

The sensor is available in three versions:

  • NW710B: For basis weight measurement only (Spunbond PP, weight range: 8 - 90 GSM);
  • NW710M: For moisture measurement only (Spunbond PP, weight range: 0 - 5% Moisture);
  • NW710BM: For both basis weight and moisture measurement (Spunbond PP, weight range: 8–90 GSM, 0–5% Moisture).
