PROFIBUS training course

Two internationally recognised PROFIBUS courses — the Certified Installer Course and the Certified Engineers Course — will be conducted by Andy Verwer, principal lecturer of the Department of Engineering and Technology at the UK Manchester Metropolitan University.

The accredited 1-day Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course covers the layout, installation and testing of PROFIBUS DP and PA networks. Course intake is limited to 12 people per group and is suitable for all engineers and technicians involved in the planning and installation of fieldbus networks. The course focuses on PROFIBUS and no previous knowledge of fieldbus systems is required.

The accredited 3.5-day Certified PROFIBUS Engineers Course covers PROFIBUS network design, commissioning and live fault-finding and is for engineers and technicians who already have a basic technical knowledge of PROFIBUS or other fieldbus systems. Completion of the Installer Course, or similar accredited course, is a pre-requisite.

The hands-on program covers the detailed theory of PROFIBUS DP network operation. On the course, participants will learn first-hand how to design, install and troubleshoot PROFIBUS DP networks; how to use diagnostic tools to detect faults and identify their causes.

Asset Lifecycle Management Forum

The forum will show how some companies have implemented successful asset information management (AIM) programs.

Asset-intensive organisations suffer staggering losses each year because of poor AIM. Manufacturers, utilities and other enterprises rely on complex equipment for their success and need effective asset lifecycle management (ALM) programs.

Fast access to accurate asset information is the foundation for operational excellence in ALM and for effective collaboration across today's increasingly complex networks of asset stakeholders.

Driving towards industrial energy savings

The technical seminar will highlight how correct sizing and selection of individual drive-train components can optimise system performance and increase energy savings.

Exploring the domain of ‘total drive efficiency’, the seminars will provide attendees with a greater understanding of how component selection impacts performance. Attendees will have the chance to speak with drive technology experts and learn how to achieve an energy-efficient, end-to-end drive solution — from the gearbox and motor, through to the drive electronics.

The agenda includes a presentation and plant-floor tour, followed by light refreshments. Attendees will also participate in a discussion-based forum held at the end of the presentation.
